Verdict: not a growth channel for most private-label brands, but the best place to turn returns, overstock, and discontinued SKUs into cash.

What it is

eBay is the marketplace where listing is free, the buyer expects a bargain or a hard-to-find item, and sellers control the listing. For an Amazon seller it fills a specific gap: customer returns that come back from FBA in opened packaging, slow movers you want out of storage before long-term fees hit, and last units of a discontinued product. Some brands also run it as a plain second channel through a sync tool, with mixed results.

Fees (checked 20 October 2026, US)

  • Listings: 250 free per month, then $0.35 each. No monthly fee without a Store.
  • Final value fee: 13.6% of the total sale amount (item plus shipping) in most categories, up to $7,500 per item, plus $0.30 per order under $10 or $0.40 per order above it. 2.35% on the portion above $7,500.
  • Payment processing: none separately; it is inside the final value fee.
  • eBay Stores: Starter $4.95/mo on an annual subscription ($7.95 monthly); Basic $21.95 ($27.95); Premium $59.95 ($74.95); Anchor $299.95 ($349.95). Basic and above cut the final value fee to 12.7% in most categories and include far more free listings.
  • Other: 1.65% international fee on sales to buyers outside the US, 3.25% currency conversion, and performance surcharges of 5% to 7% if your account falls Below Standard.

The all-in cost on a $40 domestic sale without a Store is about $5.84, or roughly 14.6%.

Who it is for

Sellers with returned, open-box, or end-of-life inventory, where the alternative is an FBA removal order and a liquidator paying cents on the dollar. A Basic Store pays for itself at around 40 sales a month through the lower fee.

Who should skip it

Brands whose products have no used or discount market and whose Amazon listings already clear inventory. Running a full catalog on eBay for the sake of “being multichannel” usually produces a trickle of low-margin orders and a second customer-service queue.

Our stack

eBay is not currently one of our channels. We have included it because the question “what do I do with returned units” comes up constantly, and eBay is the honest answer more often than a removal order to a liquidator.

The honest caveats

Buyer protection favors buyers; expect some returns you would not accept elsewhere. Shipping is on you unless you route orders through FBA Multi-Channel Fulfillment, which adds its own fee. And eBay’s search rewards sellers who list constantly, which is the opposite of how a private-label brand operates.

Bottom line

Open it for liquidation, add a Starter Store if volume justifies it, and do not expect it to move the needle on growth. No affiliate link; vendor link below.
