Verdict: the Professional plan is not optional for anyone serious, and the referral fee is the number to build every margin calculation around.

    What it is

Seller Central is the account behind every third-party listing on Amazon: your catalog, inventory, FBA shipments, advertising, reports, and payouts. Every other tool on this site either reads from it or writes to it. There is nothing to compare it to; the only decisions are which plan, which fulfillment model, and which of its optional programs (Brand Registry, Vine, Subscribe and Save) you opt into.

Fees (checked 20 October 2026, US)

    • Individual plan: $0.99 per item sold, no monthly fee. No advertising, no bulk listing, no Buy Box eligibility in most cases.
    • Professional plan: $39.99 per month. Required for Sponsored Products, Brand Registry benefits, bulk uploads, API access, and most of the tools reviewed here.
    • Referral fee: 8% to 45% of the total price including shipping, depending on category. The 15% rate covers most of the categories private-label sellers live in (Home and Kitchen, Toys, Sports and Outdoors). Minimum $0.30 per item in most categories.
    • Closing fee: $1.80 per media item (books, music, video, software) on top of the referral fee.
    • FBA fees: not on the pricing page. Fulfillment, storage, inbound placement, and low-inventory fees live in the FBA rate card and the Revenue Calculator, and they change more often than the referral schedule.

    Who it is for

Anyone selling more than about 40 units a month, where the Professional fee beats $0.99 per item, and anyone running ads or a brand, where the plan is a hard requirement.

Who should skip the Professional plan

Sellers testing a product with a handful of units, or clearing out a one-time lot. Start on Individual, upgrade the day you list a second product or want to run ads.

    Runs our store

This is the account our business runs on, and every “Runs our store” badge on this site means a tool connected to it. The lesson from years inside it: the referral fee is the stable number, the FBA rate card is the one that quietly changes your margin, and nothing on the pricing page warns you about the second.

    The honest caveats

Amazon’s fee changes arrive by announcement, usually with 60 days’ notice and a new fee type each year. Seller support is slow and scripted. And the account is the one asset in your business Amazon can suspend; keep your books, customer data, and brand assets outside it.

    Bottom line

Professional plan, FBA for anything you sell more than a few of, and a profit tool connected to it so the fees stay visible. No affiliate relationship here.
