Verdict: if you import your own containers or air shipments, PayCargo is the difference between cargo releasing today and cargo sitting at the terminal until a wire clears.
PayCargo is a payment platform for freight charges. Instead of wiring money to an ocean carrier, an airline, a terminal, a container freight station, or a forwarder and waiting for their accounting team to match it, you pay through PayCargo and the vendor sees a confirmed payment immediately. Most vendors in its network release cargo the same day or overnight once the payment shows. It handles the charges that do not fit on a supplier invoice: demurrage and detention, terminal handling, import service fees, airline storage.
For an FBA importer this matters most at the moment a shipment arrives. Demurrage starts counting days whether or not your bank has finished processing a wire, and a container held an extra three days over a payment delay costs more than a year of PayCargo fees.
Any seller who is the importer of record and pays carriers or terminals directly, which means anyone who has moved past “my forwarder handles everything” to buying freight themselves. The 30-day line of credit is the quiet benefit: it turns a freight bill due today into one due next month.
Sellers whose forwarder or customs broker pays all destination charges and bills them back; you would be paying PayCargo’s fee on top of theirs. Sellers who ship by small-parcel courier have nothing to pay through it. And the Quick Pay path, at nearly $30 all-in per payment, is a last resort rather than a plan.
PayCargo is how we pay the freight charges on our inbound shipments. The reason it stays in the stack is simple: the day a container is released is the day the money lands, and with PayCargo that is the same day we pay.
The per-user annual fee adds up if several people need access. Credit card payments carry the card processor’s cost in practice, so ACH or the line of credit is the cheaper route. And the vendor network is broad but not universal; check that your terminal and carrier are on it before you rely on it for a hot shipment.
For an importer, a $295 account and $15.95 per payment is cheap insurance against demurrage. We have no affiliate relationship with PayCargo.
